Committees

BCBC works closely with members through committees to monitor trends and deliver effective insights and advocacy on issues impacting B.C.’s economy and investment climate.

The Business Caucus (BUS.C)

The Business Caucus is a cross-sectoral group of business organizations. The Business Caucus meets virtually every month to share information and identify common issues and areas of collaboration to further the interests of the business community and advance economic prosperity in the province. It is chaired by the President and CEO.   The Caucus exists to provide a forum for association members to:

  • Inform each other about policy issues and upcoming reports and releases.

  • Share economic data and analysis on the B.C. economy and business climate.

  • Improve the effectiveness of business communications including finding opportunities to reinforce and amplify each other’s messaging and advocacy (e.g. joint submissions, social media support, joint press conferences).

Employee Relations Committee (ERC)

This BCBC Committee addresses policy and regulatory issues in the areas of labor law, collective bargaining, employment standards, occupational health and safety, and the operation and funding of WorkSafeBC.  Committee members share information regarding collective bargaining, training, legal matters and other human resource concerns and engage with senior government representatives on the issues.

Environment and Energy Committee (EEC)

Participation in the committee provides members with an opportunity to discuss current issues, share intelligence, and engage in dialogue with policymakers, government Ministers and other subject matter experts on a variety of environment (e.g., land use, biodiversity, planning, water, etc.) and energy (supply, project development regulatory requirements, compliance, greenhouse gases, exports, etc.) issues.

Indigenous Affairs & Reconciliation Committee (IARC)

The Indigenous Affairs & Reconciliation Committee meets regularly discussing policy and regulatory issues related to the implementation of the BC’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People Act and Canada’s UNDRIP Act and related issues such as benefits sharing, BC and Canada action plans, proposed legislated changes, implications of various legal challenges, and the role of business in economic reconciliation.

NEXT Leaders (NEXT)

NEXT is a forum for emerging business leaders to engage in constructive, fact-based dialogue, debate, and advocacy around economic and public policy issues that are key to investment, growth, and a sustainable, competitive economy in British Columbia and Western Canada.

What we do:

  • We provide an open platform for Next Leaders to learn, question, form opinions and formulate approaches to the challenges and opportunities facing British Columbia and Canada.

  • We share our knowledge and our opinions with our peer networks to foster improved awareness, understanding, and engagement around the policy and economic issues important to the future of British Columbia and Canada.

  • We engage with trail blazing business and community leaders to learn from each other and transition into informed stewards of our economy and our environment.

  • We provide opinions and perspectives regarding specific public policy matters to communicate our shared belief that a strong, sustainable economy is key to a sustainable province.
